There is no single best business bank account in UAE for every company. The right account is the one whose minimum balance and monthly fee your company can carry, that accepts your licence and activity, and that gives you what you use: WPS salary payments, foreign currency, cheque books or a relationship manager. On the banks’ own websites, checked 15 September 2026, business accounts run from no minimum balance with a monthly fee (ruya AED 79, Mashreq NEO BIZ Pro AED 99, Wio Business Essential AED 99, Emirates NBD Connect AED 249) to balance accounts such as FAB Business Basic at AED 10,000 and Emirates NBD Prime at AED 50,000.

This comparison is for owners of a company licensed in a UAE free zone or on the mainland, or being licensed now. Living abroad and need a personal account? Start with open a UAE bank account without residency.

Forming a Meydan or IFZA company now? Premium covers company, one residence visa and business bank account opening assistance; see the package prices and bank approval terms.

Business bank accounts compared: minimum balance and monthly fees

Sorted by minimum balance, then bank name, and not a ranking: each Dubai business bank account figure below is the bank’s own, linked in the last column.

Published by each bank on its own website, checked 15 September 2026. Banks change tariffs; the bank confirms the figure at application. “Not shown” means the product page gives no figure.

For Emirati-owned businesses, as published: Emirates NBD Emirati Business asks for AED 25,000, with no maintenance fee and AED 150 below the minimum (waived for six months for customers new to the bank); ADCB’s e-Business Account, for Emiratis and GCC nationals with an e-Trader licence, has no minimum balance and an AED 1,800 yearly fee paid upfront.

Comparison and consultancy sites often print figures that differ from the banks’ own pages, so this table carries only what each bank publishes, with the date checked.

Forming a company and opening the account together

No UAE company yet? Premium is the priced route to a company, one residence visa and business bank account opening assistance, with the same totals as the business setup cost in Dubai page.

Package Meydan IFZA What it is
Premium AED 28,136 AED 28,436 Company, one residence visa and business bank account opening assistance
Premium, local bank route AED 33,136 AED 33,436 Company, one residence visa and business bank account opening assistance with a local bank (physical presence required)

Bank account opening is subject to each bank’s KYC, compliance review and final approval. We prepare the file, pre-check it against the bank’s requirements, and if one bank declines we apply to the next.

Already hold a UAE licence and need only the business account? Assistance is quoted separately. Send your trade licence and business activity on WhatsApp and you get an itemised written quote. All four packages are on Dubai company setup packages.

Zero balance business bank accounts in the UAE

A zero balance business bank account in the UAE is offered by ruya, Mashreq (NEO BIZ Pro and Pro Plus), Wio (Essential and Grow), ADCB (SmartStart), Emirates NBD (Connect) and RAKBANK (RAKstarter), as each bank published it on 15 September 2026. Most charge a fixed monthly fee instead of asking for a balance.

Zero balance is not zero cost

The fee runs whatever the balance, and service is usually app-first. Emirates NBD says Connect has limited branch access, higher transactional fees and no dedicated relationship manager; ADCB says SmartStart allows no foreign currency payments. Weigh twelve months of the fee against the fall-below fee of a balance account you could keep funded.

When a balance account costs less

A company that keeps AED 50,000 in the account anyway pays no maintenance fee on Emirates NBD Proprietor, published for sole establishments. Balance accounts also list branches and cash deposit machines (FAB Business Basic) and a dedicated relationship manager (Emirates NBD Preferred and above, FAB Business Advantage).

Who a no-minimum account suits, and who it may not

It suits a newly licensed free zone company without revenue, a one-person service company or a company paying a few salaries. It may not suit one that deposits cash often, trades with letters of credit or needs a relationship manager.

Which account suits an SME or a startup

For an SME bank account in the UAE, match the account type to how the company earns and pays.

Company situation Account type to look at first Why Accounts in the table of that type
New free zone company, one visa, no revenue yet No minimum balance, monthly fee No cash is tied up while revenue starts ruya, Mashreq NEO BIZ Pro, Wio Business Essential, ADCB SmartStart, Emirates NBD Connect, RAKBANK RAKstarter
Service company paying staff through WPS An account that lists WPS salary payments Payroll runs every month; see the UAE WPS salary rules Mashreq NEO BIZ (free WPS salary transfers), ruya (WPS-ready), Wio Business Grow (3 salary payment files a month)
Trading company with imports, exports and foreign currency Multi-currency account with trade services Currency payments matter more than the fee; ADCB SmartStart allows no foreign currency payments FAB Business Basic, RAKBANK Business Current Account, Emirates NBD Prime
Company that can keep AED 50,000 or more in the account Balance package The maintenance fee is low or nil while the balance is kept Emirates NBD Proprietor and Prime, ADCB Business Account Gold
Owner who wants Islamic banking Islamic business account Products follow Islamic banking principles ADIB Business One, ruya

What to compare besides the minimum balance

  • The monthly fee, any VAT added to it, and the fall-below fee.
  • Local and SWIFT transfer fees: Wio publishes AED 52.50 per Swift international transfer on Essential and AED 26.25 on Grow (checked 15 September 2026).
  • WPS salary payments, cheque books and cash deposits.
  • The currencies held, and the tier from which a relationship manager comes.
  • How you apply, and whether the bank takes your licence type and activity.

Still choosing where to license? Compare the cheapest free zone in UAE, the Meydan free zone and the IFZA free zone.

The banks one by one

Every figure below is as the named bank publishes it, checked 15 September 2026.

Emirates NBD business packages

Emirates NBD publishes six business packages. Connect, which the bank describes for startups and professional licences wanting online access only, has no minimum balance and an AED 249 monthly maintenance fee. Proprietor (sole establishments) and Prime both ask for AED 50,000: Proprietor with no maintenance fee and AED 250 below the minimum, Prime with AED 99 a month and AED 150 below. Preferred, Prestige and Platinum ask for AED 200,000, AED 500,000 and AED 3,500,000, with no maintenance fee, AED 300, AED 750 and AED 1,500 below the minimum, and a dedicated relationship manager. Source: Emirates NBD business packages.

FAB business accounts

FAB’s business accounts page shows balances, not fees. Business Basic asks for a minimum average monthly balance of AED 10,000, with AED and multi-currency options. Business Advantage asks for AED 250,000 with a dedicated relationship manager, and Business Preferred for AED 500,000. The Business Call Account asks for AED 10,000 or the foreign currency equivalent and, FAB says, is open to UAE residents and non-residents. Ask FAB for its tariff before you apply. Source: FAB business accounts.

ADCB business accounts

ADCB presents these accounts for businesses with annual turnover up to AED 5 million. Business Account Gold asks for a minimum average balance of AED 50,000 a month (AED 200 if it falls below) and Platinum for AED 100,000 (AED 300). Both are in AED only, and ADCB lists a valid trade licence, a power of attorney if applicable and a valid tenancy contract. SmartStart has no minimum balance and an AED 125 plus VAT monthly service fee, for UAE nationals and residents with a valid visa. Business Account Silver is marked discontinued. Source: ADCB business accounts.

Mashreq business accounts

Mashreq publishes two NEO BIZ plans with no minimum balance and a zero fall below fee: Pro at AED 99 a month, and Pro Plus at AED 199, which adds interest on AED and USD current account balances under Mashreq’s terms. Both list free local fund transfers and free WPS salary transfers. For NEO BIZ, Mashreq lists the trade licence, the Memorandum of Association, a board resolution if applicable, company address proof, shareholders’ identity documents and bank statements if applicable. Source: Mashreq NEO BIZ.

RAKBANK business accounts

RAKBANK’s Business Current Account asks for a minimum monthly average credit balance of AED 25,000 or equivalent, with accounts in AED, USD, EUR or GBP. The bank describes its RAKstarter Account as a zero balance business account for startups, with no ledger or minimum balance fee. Neither product page shows the monthly fees; both link a key fact statement and a service and price guide, which hold the charges. Sources: RAKBANK Business Current Account and RAKstarter Account.

Wio Business

Wio publishes two business plans, both with no minimum balance required. Essential costs AED 99 a month, with 10 free local transfers a month and AED 52.50 per Swift international transfer. Grow costs AED 249 a month, with unlimited free local transfers, 3 salary payment files a month and AED 26.25 per Swift international transfer. Both list an expired trade licence fee of AED 210 per month from 60 days after expiry. Wio describes account opening as fully digital, on your phone. Source: Wio Business plans.

Islamic business accounts: ADIB and ruya

ADIB Business One asks for a minimum monthly average relationship balance greater than AED 5,000 and lists a Monthly Maintenance Fee of AED 450 per account; ADIB says the account opens through the ADIB Direct app or portal. ruya, which describes itself as a digital-first Islamic bank, publishes a business account with no minimum balance, an AED 79 monthly subscription and WPS salary payments. Sources: ADIB Business One and ruya business banking.

Costs beyond the minimum balance

Choosing on the minimum balance alone can mislead. Check the bank’s key fact statement or schedule of charges for:

  • monthly and fall-below fees;
  • local and SWIFT transfer fees, and charges from correspondent banks;
  • foreign exchange margins;
  • cheque books beyond the free allowance;
  • teller transactions;
  • paper statements and bank letters.

Keep the trade licence valid

An expired licence costs money at the bank too: Wio lists AED 210 per month from 60 days after expiry (Wio published, checked 15 September 2026), and ADCB states that a valid trade licence is mandatory for SmartStart. See trade license renewal Dubai for the process.

No professional service fee on licence renewals; government and authority fees still apply. Send your trade licence and its expiry date on WhatsApp and you get an itemised written quote.

Documents UAE banks ask a company for

Requirements differ by bank and activity; the guide to documents to open a UAE bank account goes further.

Document Asked for by
Trade licence Most banks
Memorandum or Articles of Association Most banks
Certificate of incorporation or registration Most banks
Share certificate Some banks
Establishment card, where issued Some banks
Passports, visas and Emirates IDs of shareholders, managers and signatories Most banks
Ultimate beneficial owner (UBO) declaration Most banks
Office lease or flexi-desk agreement Some banks (ADCB lists a valid tenancy contract)
Business plan, contracts or invoices for a new company Some banks
Six months of bank statements for an existing company Some banks (Mashreq lists bank statements if applicable)

Why business account applications get declined

A decline is usually about the file, not the company, and one bank can accept a file another declines. Common triggers:

  1. The activity on paper does not match the expected transactions.
  2. The source of funds is unclear or inconsistent.
  3. No visible substance: no office, website or company email on its own domain.
  4. An unclear ultimate beneficial owner chain, such as several offshore layers.
  5. The licence activity does not match the business described.
  6. A shareholder, supplier or client in a jurisdiction the bank will not serve.

The FATF announced in February 2024 that the UAE was no longer subject to increased monitoring; banks still apply KYC and anti-money laundering checks to every new company account.

Bank account opening is subject to each bank’s KYC, compliance review and final approval. We prepare the file, pre-check it against the bank’s requirements, and if one bank declines we apply to the next.

FAQ

Which bank is right for a business account in the UAE?

There is no single best business bank account in UAE for every company, and this page names no winner. The right account is one whose balance and fees the company can carry, that accepts its licence and activity, and that offers the services it uses. The comparison and SME tables above show which account types fit.

Is there a zero balance business bank account in the UAE?

Yes. Several banks publish business accounts with no minimum balance, such as ruya at AED 79 a month and Mashreq NEO BIZ Pro and Wio Business Essential at AED 99 (each bank published, checked 15 September 2026). They swap the balance for a monthly fee.

How much money do I need to keep in a UAE business bank account?

It ranges from no minimum balance with a monthly fee, such as Wio Business at AED 99 or AED 249 a month (Wio published, checked 15 September 2026), to AED 50,000 on Emirates NBD Prime (Emirates NBD published, checked 15 September 2026) and more on higher tiers. The bank confirms the balance, fees and any opening amount at application.

Which bank account suits a small business or startup in the UAE?

A new company without revenue usually looks first at no minimum balance accounts with a monthly fee. A company that trades internationally, handles cash or wants a relationship manager looks at balance packages. The SME table above matches situations to account types, not to one bank.

What documents do I need to open a business bank account in the UAE?

Most banks ask for the trade licence, the MOA, the passports, visas and Emirates IDs of shareholders and signatories, and a UBO declaration. Some also ask for an office lease or flexi-desk agreement, and a new company may need a business plan or its first contracts.

Can I open a business bank account online in the UAE?

Yes, for several accounts. Mashreq NEO BIZ, Wio Business and ruya describe online or app-based opening, and ADIB says Business One opens through the ADIB Direct app or portal; traditional packages may still involve a meeting with the bank. The trade licence comes first either way.

How long does it take to open a business bank account in the UAE?

It depends on the bank, the activity and how complete the file is. Digital accounts can open soon after KYC and compliance checks clear, while relationship manager accounts and higher-risk activities take longer. The timing is the bank’s decision, so no one can promise a date.

Why do UAE banks reject business account applications?

The usual reasons are an activity that does not match expected transactions, an unclear source of funds, no visible substance, an unclear ownership chain, or a link to a jurisdiction the bank will not serve. Bank account opening is subject to each bank’s KYC, compliance review and final approval. We prepare the file, pre-check it against the bank’s requirements, and if one bank declines we apply to the next.
